Osman Lins

This essay presents Osman Lins’ novel, Avalovara. The complex structureof this work is here highlighted, related to the Pitagoras’ geometric and mathematicalforms, the symbolic language associated with the hermetical, intertextualreferences and myths, the palindrome, the spiral and the square, that compose, amongother elements, this intense story of love and knowledge.

Este artigo trata da reconfiguração do romance Avalovara, de Osman Lins, em um hipertexto eletrônico que disponibiliza leituras por rotas, por temas, por estratégias compositivas, por sentidos. Compõem esta reflexão as rotas de leitura relativas à opressão e à formação do personagem em um tempo histórico real.

Este texto acolhe três depoimentos escritos especialmente para integrar este volume dedicado a Osman Lins. Dois são de familiares Maria do Carmo de Araújo Lins, sua primeira esposa; Maria de Lurdes Lins Strummiello, irmã de Osman Lins; o outro, de Dorothea Severino, esposa de seu amigo Alexandrino Severino.

Dos oito temas que compõem o romance Avalovara, de Osman Lins, organizados a partir do movimento da espiral sobre as letras RSOATPEN, do palíndromo Sator Arepo Tenet Opera Rotas, selecionou-se para este artigo o tema R. Deste, destacaram-se trinta pequenos fragmentos que dizem respeito à formação do cais em T. Pretende-se demonstrar que este motivo, o cais em T, é elaborado por um procedimento retórico denominado ekphasis ou écfrase. Num primeiro plano, a écfrase é uma descrição literária, detalhada, de um objeto das artes visuais. Entretanto, suas implicações envolvem aspectos da arte de narrar, como espaço e tempo, real e imaginário, concreto e abstrato, palavra e imagem, sagrado e profano.

he novel Avalovara, by Osman Lins, is formed by eight themes assigned to the letters R, S, O, A, T, P, E, N. The theme R – e Abel: Encontros, Percursos, Revelações ( and Abel: Encounters, Pathways, Revelations) – challenges the reader especially due to its seriated composition in which fragments of ten micronarratives are juxtaposed. This configuration in series is presented so as to fuse beginning and end, in a temporality marked by a further-closer motion; interior/exterior, in a spatiality marked by the conjunction of opposites and by the corrosion of established limits. In this process, the recovery of a tradition between painting and literature can be seen, accompanied by innovative strategies. Among the series, this article will examine that of the eclipse taken place in November 12, 1966, as viewed from Cassino beach, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Following that, cosmic space was an object of scientific scrutiny with participation and repercussion among the international community. Some data from this process are portrayed in the novel’s space according to media reports at the time, motivating reflections on the differences between scientific and journalistic materials, and the production of fictional texts. The historicized data are deformed in the juxtaposition of the different series, denouncing what is hidden in official reports, which follow the authorities’ view of facts.
